Class News and Activities

Meet the Year One Class of 2023!

Year One visit to Harewood House

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Harewood House. We took part in a minibeast workshop where we went on a minibeast hunt and we made minibeast houses to bring back to school (the bus driver was quite concerned when a giant spider climbed out of one!) We have placed them in wooded area and plan to monitor the visitors.

Planting  & Outdoors

We have been busy learning about the things that plants need to grow. We have planted our own broad bean seeds and are nurturing them to see who can make the tallest beanstalk!

During our time outdoors we have been investigating our woodland area to search for minibeasts. We looked in dark, damp places and some of us were even brave enough to hold what we found!

Easter Celebrations

To celebrate Easter we decided to create Easter wreaths to take home to our loved ones. We used empty egg boxes and decorated them using chalk pastels to recreate the spring flowers that we had seen during our 'signs of spring' search.

Ponderosa Visit

We visited Ponderosa and observed the different animals. We had fun remembering the different types of animals that we had learned about and classifying them based upon what their characteristics were.

Quick Quiz

What type of animal gives birth to live young?

Can you name some different animals that live on both land and in water?

Do all birds fly?

Ian's Mobile Farm Visit

Year One Children had a wonderful time meeting all of the farm animals. We got to spend the afternoon finding out about the different animals and had fun brushing and petting the animals. Our favourite activity was playing catch with the sheepdog!

Fun Outdoors

In Year One we enjoy taking our learning outdoors. We spent time exploring the different textures on our sensory walk, feeling the different sensations of smooth stone and bouncy rubber beneath our feet.

We searched the woodland for things with different textures, from tickly feathers to rough scratchy tree bark. This is helping us to develop our descriptive vocabulary! What different textures can you describe at home?

We finished our session with a woodland rendition of Jack and the Beanstalk, we liked the different voices Miss Warren used for the characters and joined in with the familiar rhymes!
