Class News 2024-2025
Space Class Assembly
Year 5 blew everyone away with their amazing class assembly based on our topic of space. The children sang and danced in songs about the Planets, Sun and Dwarf Planets in our solar system in an ecletic performance which included classical, rock, pop and rap. They portrayed various scientists throughout history in a retelling of how humanities understand of space has changed over time. They also read poems and told some hilarious spacey jokes! Everyone was so proud of them, it was absolutely cosmic!
Earth, Sun and Moon Models
We made moving models to show the movement of the Sun, Earth and Moon in relation to each other. We were very careful to ensure all the elements moved correctly. I’m sure you’ll agree they are out of this world!
Cams Models - Pop Up Characters
This half term we have really enjoyed making pop up characters which operate using a Cams mechanism. We drilled, sawed and glued our designs together ourselves using a range of equipment and tools. Our designs were inspired by our Early Islamic Empire topic.
Firefighters Visit
We had a visit from Jim from Slaithwaite Fire Station. Jim taught us about the job of firefighters, fire safety, fire prevention, evacuation and bonfire night.
Hindu Temple Visit
We all enjoyed our fascinating visit to the Hindu Temple. Check out these pictures showing some of the activities we took part in.
Pilgrimage and History Tour
We learnt so much on our annual pilgrimage as this year we walked around Huddersfield taking in the sights and learning about the history of local buildings.
Cliffe House 2024
We have so many amazing pictures from our trip to Cliffe House we have created a seperate page for them. Please click the link below to find out about our fantastic trip:

Recommended Reading Books for Year Five Pupils
We are often asked what books to recommend that might suit a Year Five pupil. Click on the link below to take you to a site with bags of ideas for suitable reading material. Obviously, you know your child best; their level of reading ability and what subject matter might be best suited (or avoided) for their own individual needs and beliefs, but this site enables you to click on the book, gain further information about it and will even take you directly to an on-line shop. Please note; we are not affiliated to the site in any way and the books shown are meant as serve as ideas for your children only.
